Live: Sylvania 300 Qualifying - 9/18/09

Michael Waltrip qualified 21st for the Sylvania 300, Sunday's Sprint Cup race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. He ran his best of two laps in 29.062 seconds at 131.058 MPH, 0.517 seconds behind pole winner Juan Pablo Montoya. David Reutimann qualified 13th (131.510 28.962 -0.417), Marcos 31st (130.595 29.165 -0.620).

Qualifying began at 3:10pm ET, and Mikey was slated to roll off fifth.

"You got me?" a crew member asked one minute later.

Gene gave the quick times.

"29 what?" someone asked.

"29.16. The 26 run a 29.16.

"The 11 ran a 29.20 on the first lap. Actually, a 29.34, then 29.23."

Mikey was on track at 3:18pm.

"Good job, buddy!" Gene said after the run. "29.06."

"Man, it's just so loose, man. I did everything I needed to do, but when I got to the gas, I couldn't hold it. Sorry," Mikey said. He told his team the car turned better, but they need to tighten it up.

Gene told him he had a good pick-up in speed.

"Well, I love this track, and I'm good at it," Mikey said. He said he just didn't have what he needed to.

"Good job." The pole at the moment was an 84.11, and Mikey was second with an 06.

When David went out, he was told, "96 second lap. You're 3rd right now. Temps?"

David gave them. He said he couldn't get back to the gas earlier like he wanted to, because it wouldn't cut. He was struggling with the front end.

His crew chief, Rodney Childers, asked if the last adjustment had helped in the centre or on exit.

"It didn't help," David replied. "It didn't try to snap on me or nothing." He said he couldn't snap back to the throttle like he needed to.

"10-4." Rodney noted that the track was getting warmer, so their time should hold up well.

Be back tomorrow for happy hour coverage!
